Abstract
This study examines the risks associated with the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies in a precast concrete manufacturing firm in Mongolia, with particular focus on an emerging market context. Although Industry 4.0 technologies can improve productivity, efficiency, automation, and responsiveness to changing market conditions, their implementation can involve significant financial, operational, organisational, and market-related risks. These challenges may be particularly pronounced in emerging economies where limitations in infrastructure, regulatory frameworks, and skilled labour can affect technology adoption. Using a case study approach, the research identifies the key risks associated with technology adoption and examines how these risks interact during the implementation process. It also evaluates the effectiveness of the organisation’s risk management strategies in addressing these challenges. The study contributes to the existing literature by providing empirical insight into the interconnected nature of technology adoption risks within a Mongolian manufacturing context. The findings may also provide practical insights for organisations in emerging markets seeking to manage risks associated with the implementation of Industry 4.0 technologies.
