HECA Research Conference
On Tuesday, November 15th, 2022, history was made as the first ever HECA Research Conference was launched, bringing together the brightest minds in the Irish independent/private higher education sector. Hosted in-person by Griffith College in Dublin and available for online viewing, the conference aimed to showcase the research of both staff and students from HECA member institutions, providing a valuable insight into the world of research in this sector.
Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Simon Harris, attended the conference and praised the diversity of research taking place in the HECA community. He acknowledged the commitment of HECA colleges to research and education and their importance to the third-level education system.
Attendees had the opportunity to hear from academics and students at varying stages of their careers and education, with talks and Q&A sessions providing practical support for getting involved in research. The highlight of the conference was the chance for researchers to meet in person, share knowledge and expertise, and expand their professional networks.
The importance of belonging to a broader research community was emphasised throughout the day, with attendees expressing their desire to sustain the positive energy generated by the conference through future collaborative work and initiatives. The HECA Research Conference was a major milestone for the research community in Irish higher education and marks the beginning of a valuable series of events to come.
Organised jointly by the HECA Research Committee and the HECA Library Committee, the conference was a showcase of the research by both staff and students across HECA member higher education institutions. The successful and exciting event demonstrates the passion and commitment of the Irish independent/private higher education sector to advancing knowledge and understanding.
